Automatic license plate reader

The SLR Engineering license plate module detects and reads license plates for monitoring, access control and statistics. It is immune to lighting changes, extremely fast, and well suited for embedded and mobile systems.

The module is practically configuration free and it can be trained to read codes on boxes, containers with special fonts or even for symbolic codes.

Performance

  • processes 120 frames @ CIF resolution on standard PC
  • processes 50 frames/sec @ 4CIF resolution on standard PC
  • typical accuracy per character 99.7%
  • typical accuracy per license plate 95%
Product advantages

  • excellent license plate detection capability
  • very low processing and memory footprint
  • practically configuration free
  • trainable to symbols

The software for detection and reading of license plates developed by SLR Engineering can be used for applications in traffic monitoring, and traffic planning. In this case license plates are extracted either from pre-recorded video sequences, or in live mode using a PC with attached camera. The SLR Engineering smart camera supports this function as well. The SLR Engineering ALPR software extracts the license plates from the video source and merges multiple readings into one result. The license plate string is enhanced with a timestamp and then stored in a file. The license plate strings can be hashed so that they are transformed into an ID which is unique (and later re-identifiable on another reading), but not connected to the original license plate string.
